THE 12 STAGES OF

Somato-Respiratory Integration

Learn about the 12 stages of SRI with Dr. Deb Ayer.

SUFFERING

Suffering unlike pain, is marked by a profound awareness that something is wrong. In the beginning phases of our care, our awareness may be heightened by the experience of pain that is associated with our symptoms. As you connect with the rhythm of this stage, you learn to ACCEPT and ACKNOWLEDGE that you feel helpless or distressed, that it seems like nothing works, and that it will never end.

POLARITIES & DIFFERENT RHYTHMS

During this stage, you may find yourself judging experiences or others for anything that reminds you of your alienated parts. You might want things to go a certain way and then get upset if they don’t. When you connect to the rhythm of stage two, we begin to become aware of our different parts and polarities; we discover that we are a part of a process, and partially responsible for our distress.

STUCK IN PERSPECTIVE

This part of healing involves the recognition that our distress is associated with the fact that we are stuck in a certain perspective. You won’t know why you’re stuck or what to do about it yet, but it’s important to acknowledge that we are stuck.

RECLAIMING OUR POWER

You’re angry and have had enough of losing your power! You have had enough and are ready to take your wholeness back! At this stage our focus is no longer on a single cause or answer, it’s not about a condition, it’s about the courage to be ourselves.

MERGING WITH ILLUSION

We now know there is more to our body’s symptoms then just physical pain. It feels like there is an emotion or energy that must be recognized. We know it can be scary to recognize this and rediscover any past discomfort but we are ready and know we will be okay.

PREPARATION FOR RESOLUTION

We are ready to do whatever it takes to move on with our lives and know that there is something more waiting for us than suffering or pain. At this point, we may not completely know how to deal with what comes next but we are determined and prepared to do whatever it takes to live a life of wellness.

RESOLUTION

Some type of discharge will occur whether it be crying, screaming, vomiting, a high fever, or coughing. When this discharge occurs AFTER the 6 stages, resolution will come with it; a sense of satisfaction, inner strength, accomplishment, and peace.

EMPTINESS IN CONNECTEDNESS

We find ourselves in a state of possibilities, gratitude, and connections with the rhythms around us. You will sense more room in your body for breath and feel more connected to the universe.

LIGHT BEHIND THE FORM

You learn to feel the energy within your symptoms and it starts to make sense. You begin to feel love all around you and gratitude for the love within yourself and the universe.

ASCENT

You’re humbled by the new understanding that you’re within all and that all of life is connected to you. You will experience love as a spiritual and physical phenomenon through light, vibration, and/or touch.

DESCENT

We know that we are a part of all that we perceive and responsible for all that we know. We learn to live without being attached to our circumstances, to love, and share our gifts with the world. Sharing what we do becomes who we are.

COMMUNITY

We experience our involvement with humanity and recognize that wholeness comes from bringing our individual gifts to the community.
